I know its been a long time since my last report. Well it is Mid May, the Penn Yan is in the water and fishing and we are getting some nice fish. We have openings in May and June but the rest of the season is getting tight. Well it is that time of year when we transition from river to the lake.
Why I am trying to squeak out a few more river trips it looks like I am going to lose a bunch. That being said the lake boat will be going in this week and thanks to mother nature and Brookfiled Power here is what we now have open. May 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 21, 25, 26. July and August is about booked full, but we have days in June as well. Lets hook up you owe it yourself to get away and enjoy your freedom and the great outdoors. ![]() Hey gang just wanted to give you a quick update on everything that is happening here at High Adventure. Fishing in Pine Island sound has been incredible this month. There are tons of reds plenty of snook and trout along with snapper and sheepshead. I have openings scattered throughout the winter months so if you have the cold-weather blues give us a shout and we can get hooked up. Moving forward my spring steelhead season on the salmon river is about booked up except May 6, 7. If you want to fish the river with me this spring contact me soon as those days will not last long. We are also booking spring and summer Lake charters. My first mate Captain Jeff Richard Wallace II will be running the boat from late April until May 10 and then after that I will be joining him for the remainder of the season. Weekends are pretty close to being all booked up but we still have plenty of days during the week. I start my lake season in mid May and Browns and King salmon will be active in the Oswego area. While the Penn Yan may be in deep storage for the winter, Mike and Beth at Mikes Marina have my to do list which includes some upgrades and preventative maintenance. Jeff Wallace says he will be back on-board as mate for the season and everything is falling into place. Weekends are about gone but I have a lot of afternoons and weekdays still available. Here is the updates list. Mornings August 16, September 3. PM trips We leave the dock at 1 PM August 8, 13, 14, 19, 20, 26, 27, 28 September 3, 4, Thanks Mother nature has given lake Ontario troller’s every type of conditions imaginable in the past week.
We have seen torrential rains, stiff winds, dense fog and dead flat beautiful sunny days! Just like the weather the catch has been from one extreme to the other. One trip the cooler is full, the next trip you were scratching your head wondering if you are on the same body of water you were yesterday. I am blessed to have the greatest clients in the world and at the end of the trip when they are smiling and scheduling for next year there is really nothing more I could ask for. #lovemyjob Fishing remains good across the Eastern basin with a respectful number of Kings being caught about everyday. Lake trout are hugging the bottom in 130 to 170 FOW and browns, although very scattered are being caught near the harbor in 15 to 30 FOW.
Spoons have been the ticket for everything although a few guys are running cut bait. Green glows early, black and silver patterns and yellow on the rare occasion we see the sun! The phone has been busy, but I am always slow in June, in fact June is my slowest month of the year, go figure. Fortunately that gives me some time to catch up on house projects and travel to see some family and friends. That being said here is what I have left open for the summer lake season. I have about a week to go and it will back to the Salmon River, and mud season, chipping ice out of the guides and chasing Spring Steelhead through the rapids. I love the warmth but miss the ironheads, so its off to the north I go. This has been another incredible season for Shelley and I. Although the red tide and toxic flows from Lake Okeechobee did in fact kill many fish, are local waters did well and aside from the loss of our trout we pounded on Snook, Reds, Snapper, Sheepshead and Jacks all winter. We had more cold fronts in late February and March then we needed, but we got by and stayed on the fish. Every year gets busier down here and I hoping to stretch my season into early April in 2020. Just like my lake and river trips in NY, I suggest you lock in your days for fishing down here as soon as you can. I am blessed with great clients, warm weather, killer fishing and a fabulous wife/ partner and dates are going fast. Anytime you want to talk fishing, just give me a shout.
