High Adventure Fishing Report for the Salmon River and Lake Ontario

The Salmon River is running at 1650 cfs and the brown mud stain is gone. We have rain in the forecast so I really have no idea when the water will drop.
There are fish on the gravel and drop backs holding at the tail outs.
There is not a lot of fish in the system but if you work hard and move around there is enough to make the day.
If you have been spoiled during the gravy years and expect hero fishing and numerous bites in each spot, I suggest you stay home.
This is grind it out, tough ironhead angling. Work hard, move a lot, make good drifts, and be ready.
Eggs sacs in Pink, white and blue cured with Pautzke Fire Cure are taking a fair share of fish. I am also running a lot of beads mainly in custom painted colors.
When I am backtrolling Yakima Mag Lips in 2.5 and 3.0 on orange and gold and the Grinch are getting bit regularly.
On Lake Ontario mixed reports are coming in. My boat won't splash in for another week or so but I talk to several captains daily.
The brown trout bite from the Salmon River to Oswego has been fair at best. There are some good sized fish being caught but as expected we seem to be missing our 2 yr old fish.
Captains are running a combination of spoons and stickbaits. Bay Rats, smithwicks and Michigsn Stingers are the baits I here mentioned most.
Lake Trout fishing appears to be pretty good if you dress warm and head out to 140 FOW as the surface temp is still pretty cold out there.
Spring is here and things will just keep getting better.
Be safe out there and please put a few back for another day!!
